Swicroromssia '08

We’re just days away from the start of Euro 2008 – that’s soccer to all you Americans, which of course means most of you won’t be watching it.  But some of you will, and without England being represented this time around, it became a dilemma of what team to follow.  The conversation posted over on A’Hottie’s blog shows how we have decided to support Swicroromssia, and we can now also show our support with this wonderful range of apparel.  The design, btw, is made up of the 4 country’s outlines – kind of like if they had a horrific country car accident, this is how they would look.

We also have the “Fight” translation on the back of the shirts, so we can end the fight song in the true spirit of all things Swicroromssia.  But there was still something missing.  RIght!  The National Anthem – sung before all games.  So here it is, butchered from each country’s own National Anthem, it certainly makes interesting reading, and gets reallllly angry once we get to the Romanian verse.

The National Anthem Of Swicroromssia (sung to whatever tune fits)

When dark clouds enshroud the hills
And gray mist the valley fills,
Yet Thou art not hidden from Thy sons.
Pierce the gloom in which we cower
With Thy sunshine’s cleansing power

Our beautiful homeland,
Oh dear, heroic land,
Fatherland of ancient glory,
May you always be happy!

Awaken thee, Romanian, shake off the deadly slumber
The scourge of inauspicious barbarian tyrannies
And now or never to a bright horizon clamber
That shall to shame put all your nocuous enemies.

For generous dreaming, for living and longing
The years approaching give us ample scope.
With faith in our Homeland we are getting stronger.
It was so, it is so and it will be so!

(Fight, Fight, Fight Fight Fight!)
