In September 1999, a sitcom made its way onto British television, and despite flying under the radar for its 2 seasons, the DVD releases turned it into a cult classic, and its creators went on to make a couple of the funniest British movies to be released since.  The TV show was called “Spaced”, and its star and creator, Simon Pegg, went on to make the movie classics “Shaun Of The Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”.

Spaced had a limited showing in the US on Bravo, the short-lived Trio, and finally BBC America.  But last week, the series was finally released on DVD in the US.  I am not exaggerating by saying that Spaced is unquestionably one of the top 3 comedy sitcoms to ever come out of the UK (if you pin me down to name the other two, we could debate for hours, so please no pinning down).  Not only is the show truly original and hilarious, it also pays wonderful homage to TV and movie greats every passing minute (in the same vein as Shaun Of The Dead), and repeated viewings only end up showing more references that you missed the first time around.  The DVD also has an ‘homage-o-meter’, just in case you’re not picking up on everything.

If you have a spare $35 around, head to Amazon and buy this series, you will not be disappointed.  Here’s a little snippet:
